Hyeseon Hong Jazz Orchestra

Hyeseon Hong
Jazz Orchestra

Saturday May 30 • Pier Stage @ 1:30 pm

Hyeseon Hong is a Korean-born, New York–based composer, arranger, and bandleader whose work bridges jazz tradition with cinematic scope and contemporary storytelling. A graduate of Berklee College of Music, Hong has emerged as a distinctive voice in large ensemble jazz, leading the Hyeseon Hong Jazz Orchestra—an 18-piece ensemble dedicated to performing her original compositions.

Her music blends lyrical melodies, intricate orchestration, and dynamic rhythmic interplay, drawing from jazz, classical, and modern compositional influences. Hong’s works often explore themes of

resilience, memory, identity, and collective energy, resulting in performances that are both emotionally resonant and musically adventurous.

The Hyeseon Hong Jazz Orchestra has performed at major venues including Birdland Jazz Club and has been featured in festivals and concert series throughout the New York metropolitan area. Through

ambitious large ensemble writing and a commitment to accessible public programming, Hong continues to expand the reach of contemporary big band music while fostering community engagement through live Performance.

In addition to performing at venues and festivals across the country the big band is now in its fifth year of its successful monthly residency at The Jazz Gallery, the iconic NYC venue co-founded by Roy. Last year marked the 30th anniversary for both The Jazz Gallery and The Roy Hargrove Big Band, a testament to the enduring legacy of one of jazz's most influential trumpeters. This anniversary celebrates not only the history of jazz but also its thriving future, as the band continues to honor Roy's visionary spirit while pushing the boundaries of the big band sound.
