John Benitez is an internationally recognized, multi–Grammy Award–winning bassist, composer, producer, and educator known for his mastery of Latin jazz, salsa, jazz fusion, and Afro-Caribbean musical traditions. His unparalleled musical voice and rhythmic vocabulary have made him one of the most influential and sought-after bassists of his generation.
Throughout his illustrious career, Benitez has performed and recorded with a remarkable range of legendary artists, including Tito Puente, Chick Corea, Roy Hargrove, Chucho Valdez, Danilo Pérez, Michel Camilo, Elvin Jones, John Scofield, the Mingus Big Band, Batacumbele, Wayne Krantz, Oz Noy, Chris Botti, Donald Harrison, David Sánchez, Tego Calderón, Residente (Calle 13), Wynton Marsalis, Giovanni Hidalgo, Mos Def, Willie Colón, Eddie Palmieri, Bebo Valdés, Jeff “Tain” Watts, Mike Mainieri, and many others.
Benitez is also deeply respected as a producer. His latest project with his ensemble Revolution, recorded at EastSide Sound Studios in New York City, showcases his commitment to innovation, artistic excellence, and the mentorship of emerging talent.
As an educator, Benitez has taught at the Manhattan School of Music and New Jersey City University, mentoring countless musicians worldwide. His teaching emphasizes creativity, technique, cultural foundation, and the powerful rhythmic traditions of the Caribbean.
